OUR BEGINNING started in June 1896, when a young attorney started negotiations toward the organization. They first met at the courthouse in Webster City, with pastors from neighboring communities preaching. On December 20, 1896, the English Lutheran Church was organized with 39 members. They continued meeting at the courthouse. The laying of the cornerstone for the new church, located on Des Moines St, took place in May 1899. On October 29, 1899, the dedicatory sermon was preached by the first pastor, Dr Jacoby, in the church. Total cost of the church was $6,000. The offerings that day were $1,135.62.

DURING THE MIDDLE YEARS, under the leadership of ten pastors, the church grew so much that, in the early 1950’s, classes needed to be held at the Jane Young House, located around the corner, on Elm St. In 1953, a building program was formulated. The church’s name was officially changed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1954. Ground breaking for a new church took place at 1229 Kathy Lane on June 2, 1957. The cornerstone was placed on September 22, 1957. On Sunday, May 25, 1958, following a brief service, 445 members of the congregation joined in a procession to the new church building. Pastors Clement, Prinz, Roden, Swanson, LaMaster, Miltner, Grebner, Tiffany, Ward, Ede and current Pastor Mike Kroona have served as our pastors at this location.

OUR RECENT YEARS were officially the beginning of the ELCA. In 1989, a new Dobson Pipe organ was dedicated. Following our 100th Anniversary in 1996, we broke ground for a new education wing, and expanded our narthex and front entrance to the church, with completion in 1998. We currently have over 1,000 baptized members!
